frequently asked questions

Q: What is my cost for this service?
Nothing! WisconsinContractors.com referrals are always free. And our contractors don’t charge you extra because we don’t take a percentage of the project. You can be confident in getting the best value for your money with WisconsinContractors.com because we make it easy to get competitive bids from several contractors, and then pick the one that best fits your needs whether it is low price, high quality, or somewhere in between.

Q: How do you screen your contractors?
It is your responsibility to research your contractor.  We provide you with some of the tools to do this. (see “Consumer Tips”) WisconsinContractors.com always recommends that you ask your contractor for proof of their liability insurance, workers’ compensation, and bonding before starting any project. In addition, each state has different requirements for licensing and insurance depending on the type of project, dollar amount involved, and annual business volume. In some areas, certain types of insurance may be prohibitively expensive or even unavailable. Depending on your specific project, you may need or desire additional insurance, licensing, registration, or permitting. Because of these complexities, and because we rely on third party sources for our information, WisconsinContractors.com cannot guarantee that the contractors we refer to you have the proper or any licensing or insurance for specific projects that you may request from that contractor. Always ask your contractor, and verify his information with your local licensing agency or board.

Q: How many bids should I get?
That depends on your needs and the size of your project. For most small service projects, we normally recommend only meeting with 1 or 2 contractors who can quickly handle the job for you. For a larger addition or remodel, you’ll probably want to meet with 3 or 4 pre-screened contractors to make sure you hire the best one for your project.

Q:: What can consumers do to make sure they don't pay too much for their home services projects?

Pay close attention to bids and contracts. It is your responsibility as a customer to get bids, and all prices should be clearly stated on contracts. If something is unclear to you, ask questions.
